National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) Bernstein Young People's Concert: Thus Spake Richard Strauss (伯恩斯坦音樂入門理查史特勞斯如是說). Leonard Bernstein's Young People's Concerts was designed to open the world of music to children and to encourage youth to be more involved in music. The NSO's own Young People's Concert series, modeled after Bernstein's programs, has been highly praised in recent years. With its combination of oral explanations and instrumental demonstrations, this series has already given countless local audiences a deeper understanding of classical music. For the 2006/2007 season, Richard Strauss is to be the feature of the subscription series hence before the concert series begin, the renowned local cellist Chang Chen-chieh (張正傑) will give an interesting introduction analysis to help audience appreciate Richard Strauss and his work. The conductor will be Amy Chang (張佳韻), who has received the grand honor in Asia Region from Tokyo International Conducting Competition in 1997.

2006 Asia Pacific String Quartet Concert in Fall (2006亞太弦樂四重奏秋季音樂會). The concert will feature violinists Hwang Wei-ming (黃維民) and Hsu Hsi-lung (徐錫隆), violist Chen Ruei-hsien (陳瑞賢), and cellist Chen Chien-an (陳建安).  The program will include Debussy's <String Quartet in G Minor, Op.10, Bartok's <String Quartet, No. 1, Op.7>, and Huang Shih-mei's (黃士眉) <String Quartet "Echo in the Valley" (空谷迴響)>.
*Tonight at the Concert Hall of Cultural Affairs Bureau of Nantou County Government (南投縣政府文化局演藝廳), 135,Cheinkuo Rd, Nantou City (南投市建國路135號) and tomorrow at the National Recital Hall, Taipei.
*For the Nantou concert, tickets are NT$100; for the Taipei concert, tickets range from NT$300 to NT$500 through NTCH ticketing.

Taipei Symphony Orchestra (TSO) -- Flute and harp Concerto (台北市力交響樂團經典原味莫札特--長笛與豎琴協奏曲). This season, TSO has presented and will continue to present a series of productions until the end of this year to celebrate Mozart's brilliance in the 250th anniversary of his birth. The conductor will be Heiko Mathias Forster whose international engagements include recitals with artists such as Jose Cura and Joseph Calleja. Accompanied by the TSO, flutist Yu Ya-hui (游雅慧) and harpist Wang Ling-ling (王伶伶) will present Mozart's <Concerto for Flute, Harp and Orchestra in C Major, K.299>. Also, the TSO will present two Mozart's symphonies, <Symphony No.25 in G Minor, K.183> and <Symphony No.38 in D Major , K.504 "The Prague">.

Laszlo Simon Piano Recital (鋼琴大師Laszlo Simon鋼琴獨奏會). Simon was
born in Hungary in 1948. He emigrated to Sweden in 1966 and lives today in
Berlin. He studied in Stockholm, Hannover, London, and New York with Hans
Leygraf, Ilona Kabos, and Claudio Arrau. Simon has been awarded
international prizes at the Casagrande, Geneva, and Busoni competitions. he
was Jury member in international competitions in Barcelona, Luxembourg,
Porto, and Prague. he made his debut in Hungary in 1966 and has given
concerts world-wide ever since.  Simon has taught in many major institutions
in Europe and Scandinavia and was head of the Piano Department of the Royal
College of Music in  Stockholm. He is a professor at the Hochschule der
Kunste in Berlin and also regularly gives classes at the Muszashino Music
Academy in Tokyo. This concert is organized by the Taipei National
University of the Arts.

Hsu Hsi-lung Violin Recital (徐錫隆小提琴獨奏會). Hsu is an associate professor of Music at Soochow University.  Hsu's violin was made by the Amati family in 1680 and it was donated by Tainan-based Chi Mei Culture Foundation. The program will include Handel's <Sonata for Violin and Figured Bass, Op.1, Nr.15>, Bach's <Partita for Violin Solo in E Major, No.3>, Frank's <Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano>, and Huang Shih-mei's (黃士眉) <Violin Caprice "Time Flies By">.
*At the Taichung County Cultural Center (台中縣立文化中心), 782, Yuanhuan E Rd, Fungyuan City, Taichung County (台中縣豐原市圓環東路782號) on Sunday afternoon and at the National Recital Hall, Taipei, on Oct. 24.
*Tickets range from NT$200 to NT$300 for the Taichung concert and from NT$300 to NT$500 for the Taipei concert
