Taishin Arts Center Lunch Time Concert (台新金控藝文中心午間音樂會) will be held at the Taishin Arts Center (台新金控藝文中心) today from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Part of Taishin Bank Foundation for Arts and Culture's summer program, this concert is the fifth of a series of six lunchtime concerts. Violinist Frank Lu (盧耿鋒) will perform with his duo guitarist Lu Chia-hung (盧家宏) to present Paganini's caprices No.1, 13, and 21. Frank Lu was the first Taiwanese violin virtuoso to play Paganini's complete 24 caprices for solo violin in a row, and his recent recital held in May was well received. Lu Chia-hung have collaborated with many guitar maestros to give performances in major Chinese cities over the past.

Sweden's Gustaf Sjokvists Chamber Choir (瑞典古斯塔夫室內合唱團) will return to Taiwan this evening at the National Concert Hall after four years since its 2002 debut in Taiwan. Conductor Gustaf Sjokvists, the founder of the choir, is one of the most renowned choir directors in Sweden today. Since the inception of the choir in 1994, it has devoted to the contemporary choral literature. The choir is best known for its unique sound, special feelings for Swedish folk music, perfect forms and harmony of classical music, and rhythmic and improvisational freedom of jazz. Held as part of the 7th Taipei International Choral Festival (2006 第七屆台北國際合唱音樂節), the choir will present an array of contemporary works and modern Swedish folk songs, including Mantyjarvi's <Pseudo-Yoik> and <Four Shakespeare Songs>, Rautavaara's <Och Gladjen Dansar> and <Sommarnatten>, Strauss's <Der Abend>, Sandstrom's <Agnus Dei>, and Lidholm's <A Riveder le Stelle>.

Mozart Requiem(莫札特安魂曲) will mark the closing of the 7th Taipei International Choral Festival at the National Concert Hall tomorrow. The first part of the concert will be presented by Australia's Coco's Lunch and Sweden's Gustaf Sjokvist Chamber Choir, with Gustaf Sjokvist conducting. They will perform Sandstrom's <Psalm 139> and Schonberg's <Friede auf Erden>. In the second part of the concert, the program will be <Requiem>, Mozart's last composition and one of his most powerful and recognized works. Featuring Taipei Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (台北愛樂青年管弦樂團) and two of the best Taiwanese choirs, Festival Chorus (節慶合唱團) and Taipei Philharmonic Chorus (台北愛樂合唱團), Conductor Gabor Hollerrung will lead over 200 singers and instrumentalists to provide showcase for voice and orchestra. Hungarian Hollerrung has been the Music Director of the Budapest Academic Choral Society (BACS) since 1980. He enjoyed a unique series of successes, winning first prizes at all recognized European choir competitions including the Grand Prix of the Bela Bartok International Choir Competition in Debrecen, Hungary. Under his leadership, the BACS was awarded the title "Choir of the World" at the Llangollen International Choir Competition in Wales.

Shin-Ichi Fukuda and Louis Tsou Guitar Recital (福田進一與鄒世烈吉他獨奏會) will be held at Taichung's Shinmin Senior High School (新民中學藝術中心) tonight as the third concert of the six-concert series of the 2006 Formosa International Guitar Festival (2006福爾摩沙國際吉他藝術節). Tsou will play the first half of the program, including Dang Don's (董運昌) <L'Apres-midi au Ann-Pin>, Domeniconi's <Koyunbaba>, D'Angelo's <Due Canzoni Lidie>, and Piazzolla's <Poema Valseado> and <La Muerte del Angel "Tango">. In the second half of the program, Fukuda will present  Villa-Lobos's <5 Preludes>, Giuliani's <Rossiniane No.1, Op.119>, and also Taiwan's premiere of Cuban Composer Leo Brouwer's <El Arpa y La Sombra>.
 
Tania Chagnot and Jimmy Liu Guitar Recital (塔妮雅.夏紐與劉士堉吉他獨奏會) will also be held in Taichung on Aug. 6 as the fifth concert of the six-concert series of the guitar festival. In the first part of the concert, Liu will play Tarrega's <Capriccio Arabe>, Brouwer's <Danza Caracteristica>, Sojo's <Venezuelan Suite>, Mozart's <Introduction and Variations on the Theem from Mozart's "The Magic Flute," Op.9> arranged by Sor, Sor's <Grand Solo, Op.14> arranged by Aguado, Bach's <Cello Suite No.1, BWV1007> arranged by Liu himself, and York's <Introduction and Sunburst>. In the second half of the program, Chagnot will showcase Praetorius's <4 Danses du Terpsichore>, Mertz's <Elegie>, Brouwer's <Tres Apuntes>, Kleynjans's <L'Aube du Dernier Jour>, and Dyens's <Saudade No.3>.

Pablo Marquez and Jimmy Liu Guitar Recital (帕布羅.馬奎斯與劉士堉吉他獨奏會) will be held at the National Cheng Kung University's (NCKU) Cheng Kung Hall in Tainan (台南成功大學成功廳) tomorrow as the fourth concert in six-concert series of the guitar festival. Argentine guitarist Marquez has appeared as a soloist in concerts all over the world and has been showcased individually by countless chamber and orchestral ensembles. In the first half of the program, Liu will play Tarrega's <Capriccio Arabe>, Brouwer's <Danza Caracteristica>, Sojo's <Venezuelan Suite>, Mozart's <Introduction and Variations on the Theem from Mozart's "The Magic Flute," Op.9> arranged by Sor, Sor's <Grand Solo, Op.14> arranged by Aguado, Bach's <Cello Suite No.1, BWV1007> arranged by Liu himself, and York's <Introductionand Sunburst>. In the second part of the concert, Marquez will play works by Kantor, Falu, Uriburu, Sutti, Cabeza, Espinosa, Leguizamon, Saluzzi, and Ginastera.

Maestros' Concert "Hommage au Pere" (吉他大師們的父親節禮讚音樂會) will be held at the Novel Hall (新舞臺) on Aug. 8, or Father's Day in Taiwan, as the closing gala of the 2006 Formosa International Guitar Festival. This concert will feature all five guitarists Shin-Ichi Fukuda from Japan, Tania Chagnot from France, Pablo Marquez from Argentina, and Taiwan native guitarists Tsou and Jimmy Liu (劉士堉), and they will not only play solos but also team up to play guitar duos, trios, quartets, and quintets. The program will include Ponce's <Estrellita> and <por Ti, Mi Corazon>, Cardoso's <Milonga>, Piazzolla's <Lo Que Vendra>, Petit's <Toccata>, Sor's <Souvenir de Russie, Op.63>, Pujol's <Fin de Siglo>, Albeniz's <Granada> and <Sevilla>, Fukuda's <Fantasia on Japanese Folksong>, Brouwer's <Toccata> and <Cuban Landscape with Rain>, and Rossini's <Ouverture-La Gazza Ladra>.

Shuan Yin Arts Concert Series (玄音之夜音樂會) will present its Series III: An Evening with Great Georgian Pianist (喬治亞鋼琴巨星之夜) on Aug. 7, its Series IV: Paganini of Russia (俄羅斯的帕格尼尼) on Aug. 8, its Series V: Carissmatic Chamber Gala (魅力東歐室內樂) on Aug. 9, and its Series VI: Shuan Yin Arts Festival Carnival (玄樂狂歡節) on at the Taipei City Family Theater  (台北市親子劇場) on Aug. 10. In the Series III, Georgian pianist Vatchnadze will give an unforgettable romantic evening by presenting repertoires by Chopin, Liszt, and Ravel. In the Series IV, violinist Berlinsky, the first-prize winner of the Paganini International Competition at the tender age of 16, will present an evening of inspiration from Paganini. In the Series V, violinist Tseng Keng-yuan (曾耿元), Romanian cellist Mihai Tetel, and Georgian pianist Vatchnadze will bring the audience the all time favorite Mendelssohn's <Piano Trio> and Arensky's <Piano Trio>. In the Series VI, the height of the whole concert series, it will feature
all of Shuan Yin Arts masters, who will bring composition written by a
talented young composer, Leonid Iogansen, who has cleverly pieced together
fragments of classical music with much humor.

Jim Brickman Live Concert in Taipei (金布里克曼鋼琴演奏會) will be staged at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall (國父紀念館) on Aug. 9. Brickman, who revolutionized the sound of Adult Contemporary music with his pop-style solo piano, has had a remarkable recording career with several Top 40 radio hits, one platinum-selling album, four certified gold records and a  2003 Grammy nomination. Brickman has been equally successful in other artistic endeavors, including a weekly syndicated radio show and two bets-selling books of essays. Recently, Brickman joined forces with the legendary Walt Disney Studios to bring a new sound to the classic Disney musical library on his newest CD, "Jim Brickman: The Disney Songbook."
